Partnership for Chances is dedicated to serving individuals with a mental health challenge by providing supportive friendships, information, and giving them the necessary resources to live a full life. One of our programs is a friendship/mentorship program called Compeer. Compeer means a peer, a companion, or a friend who is your equal. The underlying basis of the program is the belief that isolation and loneliness often accompany mental illnesses. The Compeer program provides mental health consumers with a trained friend from the community. The purpose of the program is to increase the integration of the mentally ill individual into the community as well as to increase the participants’ understanding of mental illness.
